As Executive Vice President, Creative Content at Silvergate Media, Kurt Mueller oversees an eclectic roster of animated projects for kids and families, working closely with a crack in-house development and production squad whose sole objective is to make great stuff. Loosely focused on translating indie books into TV shows and beyond, Mueller has spent the better part of a decade collaborating with Meomi to adapt and produce 125 episodes of the BAFTA-nominated Octonauts, an undersea adventure series based on their acclaimed books. With tentacles extending into various live theatrical tours and aquaria exhibits, digital games and magazines, and an on-going partnership with NOAA, Mueller is currently overseeing production of Octonauts Season 5. Concurrently, Mueller has been working closely with Luke Pearson, the indie publishing house, Nobrow, and the animation studio, Mercury Filmworks, to develop and produce Hilda, a trippy, character-driven adventure series based on the Eisner-Award nominated graphic novels by Pearson. The 2-D series marks Silvergate’s first foray into programming for a school-aged audience and will launch on Netflix in 2018.
